Delta restoration was wonderful with helping me through a flood in my basement. They came same day within an hour of my call. Although I hope I don’t need them again, I will definitely be giving them a call if I do. Highly recommend them and their services. Rachel J.

6 Ways to Prepare Your Family For a Home Fire

6 Ways to Prepare Your Family For a Home Fire

6 Ways to Prepare Your Family For a Home Fire

#1 Smoke Alarms

Make sure each member of your family understands where the smoke alarms are at in your home, and what they sound like. Keep your home safe from fire damage by installing the correct amount for the size of your home-especially in all bedrooms and hallways. Don’t forget to check them often. It is recommended that batteries are replaced once a year, and the alarm is tested once a month.

#2 Escape Routes

Each person in your family should know where the escape routes are in every room in the house, especially their individual bedrooms. Sit down and make a plan with each family member on where they should go once they are out of the home.

#3 Emergency Contact

All household members should understand who they should contact in the situation of fire damage or other emergency situation. It might be a good idea to ask your neighbor or friend to be their emergency contact, and make sure your children know how to get in touch with them. Whether that is memorizing a cell number or knowing which house to knock on, your kids need to know who and how to ask for help.

#4 Practice

Especially for your little kids, it is important to run through a fire drill a couple times a year. This will help your kids feel safe and prepared, and let you know as a parent which areas you can help instruct in. A fire drill can also help you know how long it will take to get your family safely out of the house.

#5 9-1-1 and Stop Drop and Roll

Besides an emergency contact, it is important for you to teach your kids how to dial 9-1-1 in the case of a fire. You can also teach your family about the very simple instruction of Stop, Drop, and Roll if their clothes ever catch on fire.

#6 Phone Numbers

Prepare a list of numbers to call for fire damage. From your insurance to a fire damage restoration service. Fire can be scary and traumatic. Delta Restoration Services of the Wasatch Front can get your life back to normal, and help you and your family throughout the entire fire damage repair process and insurance claim. With our team of restoration professionals, we are on call 24/7 with a two hour emergency response time to fix all fire and smoke damage.
